Migraine Symptoms -- Prevent Them With Water And Salt

Prevent Them With Water And Salt

Do you feel as if you've heard everything there is about water -- the arguments over how important it is, and how much you should drink? Everyone knows some facts about water: that it has a simple formula (H2O) and covers more than 2/3 of the earth's surface. But did you know that water and salt are the second and third most important elements for your survival? Or that many authorities believe chronic water shortage in the human body causes most disease?

Water and salt can help to not only prevent migraine symptoms, but to stop a migraine in its tracks.

How Important Is Water?
(You Have An Ocean Inside You.)

Most of your body is water -- salt water, to be accurate. To keep your body functioning well, you need water and salt on a regular basis. Water is needed to ensure adequate volume inside your cells. Salt is needed to control the water outside your cells and in circulation.

When you have sufficient water in your body, your cells and organs will receive what they need to prevent migraine symptoms: necessary raw materials for all their chemical reactions, freedom of movement to carry out these reactions, and the ability to easily rid themselves of waste .

What Does Water Do For You?
(It Is A Lot More Than A Transportation System.)

Water is a solvent and transporter -- it carries oxygen and removes various wastes from the body. But water has more than a mechanical role in the body. It is an active participant in body chemistry. For example, it is essential in the breakdown of proteins and fats (into amino acids and fatty acids) so your body can use them. It is also active in the production of energy, which fuels various pumps in the body so you don't get a migraine.

Can You Just Drink Water When You Are Thirsty?
(That May Be Too Late.)

As you get older, you lose your ability to know when you need water. You can be dehydrated -- short several glasses of water -- and not know it. People prone to migraine headaches cannot rely on thirst signals for when to drink water. Your body does not store water; you need to drink enough water each day to replace what you lose (in respiration, sweating, and elimination.) This usually adds up to about 6-8 glasses a day.

How much salt? Dr. "Batman" (Dr. Batmanghelidj -- see books below) recommended roughly 1/8 teaspoon to 16 ounces of water -- so that you replaced the salt you were losing each day. (Of course, he recommended less if you already had a salty diet.)

Is Being Thirsty Serious?
What Would A Fishbowl Look Like If You Did Not Change The Water?

Being dehydrated on a long-term basis has the effect of strangling crucial processes throughout your body. This may cause most of the diseases of the human body -- as well as producing serious pain (including the whole range of migraine symptoms).

How Does Dehydration Cause Pain?

Without adequate water to flush them away, acidic waste products build up like garbage in your cells. The acid irritates your nerve endings, sending pain messages to the brain. Dehydration can cause migraines.

The good news? Sometimes you can head off migraine headache symptoms by drinking one or two glasses of water at the first sign of pain.

Will Drinking Sufficient Water Change Your Life?
(See For Yourself.)

Being fully hydrated could make a surprising improvement in your health and well-being. (Dehydration can make you feel emotionally uncomfortable as well.) Chances are you will digest your food better, sleep better, have fewer aches and pain -- for starters. Longer-term benefits can include a permanent reduction in migraine symptoms.

One Of The Best Investments You Can Make In Your Own Well-Being

Drinking water regularly is a small, easy investment with a big return for your comfort and health. You won't know until you get into the habit, just how much of a difference it makes.

As you learn more about how your body works, you will realize that many things you thought were good for you are not. Your body may not even recognize them as food. Even something marked 'organic' may not be good for you. What matters is what effect a 'food' has on your body; how it is prepared before you eat it; and how much of it you eat.

Still, even knowing that something has absolutely no nutritional value for you, you may still crave it. That's human. What to do?

Don't always deny yourself something that you really crave, are really hungry for. If you do, you may become frustrated and tempted to give up on your goal to take care of your body because you think it is too difficult. The truth is, you don't need to be 'good' 24 hours a day.

At first, when I was hungry for something like chocolate cake, I'd eat carrots, then celery, then rice cakes, etc. etc. None of it satisfied me and I finally ended up eating what I wanted in the first place!

If you're hungry for macaroni and cheese, or carrot cake or whatever, look for a healthy form of it. Just read the ingredients so you know you're eating real ingredients and not a bunch of synthetic chemicals.
